A letter to the Parents and Families of our newest members
Welcome to Phi Sigma Sigma,
Sorority membership is a lifelong opportunity for your daughter, and her collegiate experience is just the beginning. Undoubtedly, some of her most incredible college memories will be made through her Phi Sigma Sigma membership.
Our motto, Diokete Hupsala — or Aim High — has inspired sisters since our founding in 1913. It continues to provide the foundation for sorority experiences that will encompass a variety of academic and social activities, sisterhood retreats, fundraisers and community service projects. We aim to help each member excel academically and build the leadership skills necessary to advance in today's society. Our staff and volunteers provide a network of support, assisting our women with college plans and decisions about career, family and community involvement.
Our core values — lifelong learning, inclusiveness, and leadership through service — unite our sisterhood. Phi Sigma Sigma programs support lifelong member development. Resources such as mentoring, career networking and scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies, provided by the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, are available to sisters throughout their lives. Local alumnae groups ensure that wherever a Phi Sigma Sigma moves she will have a network of friends and sisters.
Your daughter’s decision to join a sorority is sound. Studies have proven that college graduates who belong to a fraternity or sorority tend to be more successful financially, and are typically more active volunteers in their communities. It is important that parents know Phi Sigma Sigma does not tolerate hazing in any way. I encourage you to visit the International Policies section of our Web site for information on Phi Sigma Sigma’s position on many important issues.
Many Phi Sigma Sigma chapters host family weekends where you can meet your daughter’s sorority sisters and learn more about the chapter. We encourage your involvement, which can make a difference as her chapter aims high for scholastic excellence and takes part in philanthropic and social endeavors.
We value the special qualities your daughter will contribute to Phi Sigma Sigma, and we’re confident that her life will be enriched by her membership in our organization. Please take a moment to browse our site and learn more about us. For additional information, feel free to contact our Headquarters.
Diokete Hupsala — Aim High!
Sincerely,
Alicia M. Scott, Ph.D.
